- Thank you for considering serving your country. Both jobs are high-tech, both tech schools are extensive, and both will open up many avenues for you post-service. In my last flying job as a Weasel, we worked very closely with SIGINT'rs as their analysis of the Electro/magnetic threat aided our planning. Security Assessment, is breaking into military LANS/WANS and helping users with issues like viruses, etc. If you're into LAN admin-geekdom this would be a good fit for you. Your TS/SCI clearance alone is worth an additional $5K/yr to any company you wish to apply to. However, you should pick the career-field that interests you, not because you think it'll help you after the AF. Typical jobs include: NSA CIA State Dept Civilian AF/DOD Network Security Analysis (HUGE in the civilian world) Contractor Analyst/Engineering jobs
- You are not going to get a very clear picture of what either of these two jobs entail. Whatever the recruiter tells you will be a "cover" story for what they're really involved. Those individuals in these occupations have security clearances so high it will make top secret seem like a rumor. They don't tell their families what they do, they don't discuss work while outside the workplace and generally are pretty low key in everything they do. Three things to remember in these occupations are Security, Security and more Security.
