how do you fix microsoft security downloads vista home premium?

how do you fix microsoft security downloads vista home premium? ive tried everything turning off anti virus firewaal etc. system restore. everything.reinstalling updates, ie7 doesnt work anymore either, I use mozilla and love it, but am wondering if it could have anything to do with it? Changed default browser to ie7 when doing bdownloads. cant figure it out and neither can microsoft.
